GeoGolf
On 30 August a new episode of the GeoGolf was played. Nine geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists did their utmost best to show that they do not only control the ground, but also the behavior of a stupid ball on the ground. The match was played on the Rijswijkse GolfClub. The weather was good except for the last ten minutes when it started to rain and playing in the last flight, the undersigned got soaked. The competition was fierce and after 18 holes Martin Kroezen showed the best control over the bouncing golf ball and won. Runner-up was Bas Hemmen. An extensive dinner gave the opportunity to discuss the peculiarities of the game of golf and the profession in which ground can also behave seemingly quite erratic. The next episode of GeoGolf will be in October and likely be played on the Hooge Bergsche near Rotterdam. Any golf-playing geotechnical engineer, engineering geologist or those otherwise involved with geotechnics are very welcome to join and should contact Bas Hemmen at GeoDelft (b.r.hemmen@geodelft.nl) or Robert Hack at ITC (hack@itc.nl).

China - Dutch GeoEngineering Symposium sound basis for further cooperation

The knowledge institute GeoDelft and the research institute GeoHohai set up 'the China-Dutch Research Centre for GeoEngineering' in February 2004. It involves an extremely close form of cooperation, the aim being to strengthen and increase the innovative power of GeoEngineering in The Netherlands and China. This will be achieved by the exchange of knowledge, cooperation in the field of research and development, as well as the transfer of employees. An annual symposium, that takes place in China and The Netherlands in alternate years, is a prominent part of this cooperation.
