General

Founded in 1934, GeoDelft is one of the oldest and most renown institutes on geotechnical engineering in the world. As a Grand Technological Institute (GTI), GeoDelft’s role is to obtain, generate and disseminate geotechnical know-how.

Partner in risk management
The institute is an international leader in research and consultancy on the behaviour of soft soils (sand, clay and peat); the construction in, on and using soil, and managing the geo-ecological consequences which arise. Again and again subsoil related uncertainties and risks appear to be the key factors in civil engineering risk management. Control of these uncertainties makes GeoDelft the obvious Partner in risk management for all parties involved in the civil and environmental construction sector. In order to facilitate the risk management process GeoDelft recently introduced the concept of GeoQ into the geotechnical sector.

GeoDelft employs some 250 highly-qualified personnel from a wide range of disciplines from civil engineering and physics to environmental science and geology. It has fully owned subsidiary companies in the UK which concentrates on geo-ecological issues.

One of the key features of GeoDelft is the unique combination of routine work, experience based consultancy and knowledge development. Mutual vertilizing of these three levels of operational activities is crucial to build the bridge between the knowledge demand from the geotechnical consultancy on the one hand and the knowledge supply from the (technical) universities on the other. GeoDelft works in close cooperation with the customers and fellow institutes, both home and abroad, to translate new and specialist knowledge into socially relevant practical solutions. Participation in relevant Dutch research collectives like CUR, CROW and COB also contributes to extending the services and experience which can be provided.
